Here is a classic NOTD, that has been shown probably too many times, but it's one that you just can't resist taking a photo of.

China Glaze, For Audrey

This colour does not get enough use in my collection. I think it looks great on shorter nails, and with a tan. Its the perfect blend of bright and pastel. It's colours like this that make me love painting my nails.

Sex and The City Nails

At the weekend I went to see Sex and The City 2 (of course). For me, the programme was never about the plot, but the clothes. Of course I love the girls, and Mr Big, but I really loved seeing the clothes, and New York!

During this film I noticed Samantha’s nails changed as much as her outfits, and this inspired me to do a nail design based on her nails. A lot of the nails in the film seem to be the highly metallic Minx nails. I might pick up some holographic polishes to try and recreate the effect, but for now, I created this look using China Glaze polishes, and some rhinestones.

China Glaze: Lemon Fizz

I thought it was about time I updated here. I've been pretty lazy with painting my own nails since I have been learning acrylic nails (posts about that to come). A while ago now I tried out the Lemon Fizz nail polish by China Glaze. I had been holding out buying this because I wanted the lemon shade from Barry M, but I got bored of waiting for it to be released in Superdrug (although it is available now). I gave in and placed an order from eBay, and am pleased I did. I will of course be comparing this to the Barry M shades as I love their nail paints.

I really like this colour, although on application it seems a little brighter than it does in the bottle, it is a lot more muted than the other yellow I own (solar power). It is a lovely cream formula, which China Glaze does so well. The first coat goes on a little streaky, but with the second coat it is left beautifully smooth and shiny.

Cream is definitely my finish of choice at the minute, although you know I can't resist a good bit of glitter!

China Glaze: Peachy (not so) Keen

After lusting over the China Glaze Up & Away collection for a while I finally gave in and ordered Peachy Keen when I had some left over money in my paypal account. I can't believe I resisted for so long!

It finally arrived this morning and I am left a little disappointed! I think I had built up the arrival of this polish for so long that when I applied it, it wasn't at all what I expected. It seems far to bright and orange, compared to the colour I had in my head, or the bottle. I wanted a paler peach. It looks a little garish with my skin tone at  the minute, to be honest. I am hoping it will look a little better with a tan, as summer gets closer. 

The bubbles in the right picture are because of using an old topcoat (it's in the bin now)

Now, I feel bad for talking about a nail polish this way, I normally love China Glaze, and I have never been disappointed by a colour. I think however, this is one that has been raved about so much that the actual colour becomes twisted in your head. I do like the colour and I like it more each time I see it on my nails, it is just not what I wanted. It seems more like a creamy orange, rather than a pastel peach, which is what I really want.

As far as application and quality goes, it cannot be faulted. It is another smooth, perfect cream from China Glaze, a dream to apply, and is tough dry relatively fast. I am hoping that I can save this with some Konad or nail art as I really want to make this shade work for me.

Have you tried this colour? What do you think of it? Does anyone have any recommendations for a good pastel peach?

NOTD: Parisian Polka Dot

Here are my nails for today. A quick and easy polka dot design.

I also decided to add a polka dot bow at the end, just to one ring finger

The last for this year…

So, I have been bombarding this site with Halloween, and nail posts in general, but here is my last for this Halloween, and the design I actually wore on Halloween. If you hadn’t noticed from all the posts I love Halloween and found the nail art a great way to get into the Halloween spirit.

The final design I went for was a simple black and white, skull design. I painted my nails alternatively black and white, and then used my Konad plate M13 to create the skull design in the contrasting colour.

On my little pinkie nail, I opted for the “Halloween design with the knife above it. I thought the skull would make that little nail look too crowded. I really like this combination and am going to keep it on for a few days more!

As a finishing touch, I added my China Glaze Ghoulish Glow top coat to my ring finger on my left hand. Having one glow in the dark nail was a lot more freaky that having them all painted glow in the dark! It did smudge the Konad design a little but nothing too drastic.

I best get planning some bonfire night themed nails!

Another Halloween nail post…

As you know I got the OPI Tattoo Ta-boo nail set. I love the glow in the dark polish, and the cute ideas for Halloween nail art. Since then I have purchased the China Glaze spell bound set. This has four nail polishes in as well – the standard black and white, a chunky glitter top coat and a glow in the dark top coat.

Spellbound is gorgeous! Chunky silver and orange glitter, with enough glitter to be worn on its own, but looks amazing over a black base. This is as close as I will get to the Sallys exclusive colour Fortune Teller.

I loved wearing this, even though I normally go for a more shimmery glitter, this looked great.

I also used China Glaze Matte Magic over the top, just because I received it the next day and couldn’t wait to try it out. Matte glitter looks amazing, and adds a real Halloween edge.

This requires quite a lot of work to remove it. I was using the pads soaked in nail polish remover, which I normally use and find to be quite good (they are by Purederm, cost about 50p online - yey). I had to almost scrub at my nails with the pads to get this off. This was actually great for my nails, and left them really smooth and shiny. They have not felt that good and strong in ages. I actually loved the result, it was like a manicure.

The glow in the dark top coat, Ghoulish Glow, is really gimmicky and I love it. It does slightly effect the nail polish, it doesn’t particularly alter the colour but more the look of the polish as it removes some of the shine. It’s kind of a half matte texture. It is totally worth it as the glow is so cool.

So the question is OPI or China Glaze this Halloween?

To be honest, I could not decide between the two, as they both had bits that I wanted. I like the fact that you can choose your own glow in the dark colour with China Glaze, but I’m not sure how often I would use it. The OPI has a wider variety of colours, and you could always use the sheer glow in the dark blue as a top coat. The white in the China Glaze is much better, but the black in the OPI set was better.

I think if forced to make a choice I would go with China Glaze.
